Vertigo is one of common symptom in Indian population, appox 3-5% incidence, and most of time people and even general physician attribute it to cervical cause, but in reality most common cause of dizziness is Inner ear causes( BPPV, Vestibular Neuritis, Menniers disease. Etc), Central cause(stroke and brain tumours, Vestibular Migraine), cardiac and metabolic cause.
Diagnosis of cause of vertigo requires thorough History and ENT and vedtibular examination and Vertigo Diagnostic test(VNG,CCG, SVV, Dynamic Visual acuity), After Diagnosis of cause of vertigo is established, its treatment is done by Repositioning Maneuver, Rehablitative exercise, certain drugs for treatment of specific cause.
One should avoid taking any suppressive drugs for long time without asking doctor, Most of times vertigo is treatable and patient can have good quality of life.
Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo may go away on its own within a few weeks or months. But, to help relieve BPPV sooner, your doctor, audiologist or physical therapist may treat you with a series of movements known as the canalith repositioning procedure.
Performed in your doctor's office, the canalith repositioning procedure consists of several simple and slow maneuvers for positioning your head. The goal is to move particles from the fluid-filled semicircular canals of your inner ear into a tiny baglike open area (vestibule) that houses one of the otolith organs in your ear, where these particles don't cause trouble and are more easily resorbed.
Each position is held for about 30 seconds after any symptoms or abnormal eye movements stop. This procedure usually works after one or two treatments.
Your doctor will likely teach you how to perform the procedure on yourself so that you can do it at home if needed.
My husband had minor surgery performed by Dr. Sameer Sethi, and his team. It was done very professionally and we are really happy with the results of the surgery. I highly recommend people suffering from ENT related issues to consult Dr. Sameer Sethi. We had a very satisfying experience from the start until the post surgery checkups.
Amazing team of clinicians and support staff under supervision of Dr. Sameer Sethi. Worth mentioning is the sterilization procedures that happen in the clinic between evaluation of each patient. Kudos to the team in such difficult times. Keep up the good work.
